I can't believe I am even having to add this, but NEVER toss a bird up in the air to test if it can fly!
Every year, thousands of fledgling birds are stolen from their parents by well-intentioned, but misinformed people.
Follow the chart below to make sure the bird you found actually needs your help BEFORE you remove the animal from the location.

***Never put liquids directly into the mouth of a wild bird, this includes parrot hand-feeding formula! Birds airway is directly at the back of their tongue and it is very easy to aspirate (put it into their lungs) and kill them***
If injured:
Find an appropriate sized box and line it with a paper towel.
Create a "donut roll" out of a clean (and smell free) towel. Place the donut in the box.
Here I made a donut out of two tea towels rolled up and twisted into a donut (circle shape) and center which is just small enough to hold bird feet and part of the body.
Place tissues in the center of the donut to collect poop so you can change them out if need be. (Who wants to sit in poop?)
Tissues are monitored, if bird poops, these can be replaced. Also tissues add some light padding.
Put your bird with its feet inside the donut and its head and tail hanging over the sides. That keeps the bird stable.
Bird is now in the box, so close the top of the box but leave an air hole. Torqued tail is usually an indicator of spinal trauma.
